There was this contest, "JulNoWriMo". = JulyNovelWritingMonth. Yay! So I decided to participate, since I had a novel idea that needed to get written. I'm gonna transfer all my posts about it from the JulNoWriMo forum to here, so I have a nice little archive. So here we go!

Alright! Going well, going to bed now with 1,860 words done, and the first "section" is done. Yaayy!!
I guess I'll post a little section, here's an excerpt where Phoebe, in kindergarten, is speaking to her teacher.

I'm thinking now Phoebe's section might be really thin compared to the other's, but that might be a good thing in the long run...dunno. I'll write the other sections then come back to it. By then I should have a better sense of length, or balance, or whatever. Best not to get bogged down in the details now, and just get the basics all written.

Dangit! I've got a 7:30 bike ride so I really HAVE to go to sleep right now, even though I'm totally on a roll right now.
Uh, here's another excerpt I guess, for your reading pleasure:

Wow. At some point I will post other parts of the novel besides inane, rambling, children's dialog. I just think those parts are funny. Tomorrow's update, I swear, I won't even post dialog. It'll be a whole description paragraph. Just you wait.

Also, section 1 complete, section 2 is now 4 chapters in, looks like it'll be 6 chapters long. Onward!

Wow. Well, my goal was to get to the end of this "section" today, and I actually managed it, somehow. My dad brought home a huge pile of work for me to do, which consumed about 4 hours of my day, and then we had to go as a family to the movies, and in the morning I worked out, and then I had to clean the house for the party tomorrow...
How did I manage to write 2,500 words and reach my goal of end of the section? I have absolutely no idea. Earl Grey, that must be it.
Anyway, um, I suppose I'll post an excerpt, keep you guys amused. I swear, I am either writing exclusively dialog or I just hate prose because every one of my excerpts are huge chunks of dialog. Not tonight! I will find something else...

Ugk. Well today sucked so far as writing. Fireworks ruled, had an awesome party, almost got killed a couple times, but the writing suffered. I mean, I'm still ahead of the game and whatever, but I only wrote about 1,100 words today, which is a major drop off. I'm gonna go brush my teeth and get ready for bed, and who knows, maybe I'll suddenly decide to write another 1,000 words right before bed.
It also might have to do with the fact that I don't entirely like the character that this section is focusing on.
Is that a really bad thing? Uuhhhhh it might be. *paces around* I dunno. I have a feeling the more I write him the more I'll like him, but I'm not sure.  I mean, if an author doesn't like a character, I bet it shows up right? But I understand his characterization, and his motives and his emotions and why he does what he does...

Take that Tobias! I just finished your section! Ha! Oh man I had to just power myself through Tobias' section otherwise I would have gone totally insane trying to write him for a whole 'nother day. So there! Tomorrow I get to start on Amanda's section, who I actually LIKE, well, a little bit. Aaaand I get to do...well...not gonna say. But something different happens in this section that hasn't happened yet in the other sections. So coolz.
And what do you know, Tobias' section, for some reason, had me writing large chunks of description! So I have description for you guys. This excerpt isn't my favorite bit from the chapter, but I thought it was appropriate for all us struggling authors out there during this marathon month.

Wow-zers do I hate Tobias. But you know what? He's done. So screw you Tobias! You can't stop me!
...
I'm going to bed. (btw I wrote for like, 8 hours today. I was writing reaaaallly slowly because of damn Tobias.)

Alright people! So. Throwing in the towel for today. It's been a fairly productive day, I'm about 3/4 done with Amanda's section. Though I'm now beginning to realize that, mathematically speaking, my book, as of right now, (look at those comma splices) will end at around 40k or so. I can't imagine coming up short though, so I figure something will come up, some new characters will appear, or the current characters will reveal themselves to have more to them than I previously thought.
Anyways, excerpt time! Because I know my daily excerpts are the highlight of everyone's day ^.^

Poor Amanda. I'd like to say that I am not Amanda, she in no way represents me or my philosophy on life, but then again, that's probably why I don't have a boyfriend. So I can manage to sympathize with her, even though at first I didn't want to. And btw, prior to this scene she had spent all night studying in order to impress Robert. :-( everyone hug Amanda!

I so seriously considered writing another 300 words just to get to 50%, but I just finished a section and I don't have the next section entirely solidified so I'm gonna wait till I know what I'm doing and write it tomorrow. I've got an 830 bike ride so I'll plan the section out during the ride. I talked it over with my friend and I think I have a much more firm idea of what it's going to be now, but I need to let things ferment a little while longer.
Excerpt time!

Welcome to the JulNoWriMo Amanda. Lol. I thought this excerpt sounded like what a bunch of us are sort of going through. "Oh, I'm gonna write stuff! Wait. The internet is there. *five hours later* okay, now I'm going to write stuff! Oh wait, now I have to sleep and go to work! nyah!"
Also, I would have gotten soooo much more written today, but my dad has me doing a ton of work for him. So I spent most of the day hitting 3 different printers like a gorilla trying to get the dang things to work. None of them do, apparently. Hopefully tomorrow will go better.
Notes from writing today:
Snarkily IS a word, screw you MSWord!
Done with Amanda! Yay!

Well I massively failed today. I wrote a measly 1,146 words. Bah.
What happened was all my previous sections were really planned out and I knew where I was going and who the characters were and junk. And this section I kind of threw in because it needed to be there, but I hadn't had time to plan it out. So then this morning when I was on my bike ride I was trying to plan it out, and this character showed up and I was like "hehe. She's cool. side character!" but then no other characters would develop.
So now she's the main character of the section.
Point is, took me forever to plan out this section, but now I've got it planned and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Tomorrow I'll write bunches to make up for today.

Say hello to Ashley, the girl who decided to eat my brain and not allow me to write today until I ceded the role of main character of this section to her. Bitch.
Things I learned today instead of writing:
-Laserprinter paper can get wicked hot when you're printing 2k pages.
-I fall asleep in the afternoon due to carbs, not my Italian heritage. though the two are deeply related.
-you can change the size of the virtual memory on your computer
-a marginally cute really knowledgeable techy works at my local office max
-downtown Oviedo was designed by Satan to be a labyrinth from whence no one shall ever escape
Well that was my wasted day! I swear to all things good I will have something decent to tell you guys tomorrow. Because I know my caddy (catty? caddy?) remarks are what you look forward to in the depths of night.
Until tomorrow! Hope everyone else had a better day than me!

Yay! Today was really productive! 7,396 words. 1k of those were past midnight, and I'm counting them for tomorrow for the 10% day 10 challenge thingy, but since I woke up this morning I've written 7,396 words. Wicked awesome.
Section I'm working on I'm really enjoying, and it should be finished tomorrow. The next section I'm kind of anxious over, because it's kind of autobiographical and just chocked full of teenage angst/insanity. I'm just not sure how I want to present it and junk. I've got a bike ride tomorrow, I'll figure it out then.

Well, failure and success. I failed at the 10 days 10% challenge (by 800 words...:-( ) but then I succeeded at finishing the section that I was on and starting the next section. And I was working all day damnit! Nyah!
Anyway, I'm kind of sad to be leaving some of these characters from this section, but that tends to happen with almost every section. Except for Tobias. I'm glad I'm through with him for now. Anyway! Excerpt time!!!

Okay. Well that was...interesting.  24 hours of insane writing. I managed to snag a grand total of 3 hours of sleep at some point early this morning. Specifically, between 630 and 930. So in one day I wrote 16,886 words. Yay!!
I've completed two full sections today! Wow! I'll post something from Tyler's, since I already posted something from Lucy's.

Not bad burnout though. ^.^ I didn't write at all yesterday, sorry. After Wriday Sat, I was a little bit burnt out. I almost didn't write today, but I made myself at the last minute. Certainly not a ton of words, but that's alright. It was something.
So, Kim's section is starting to take shape. I just realized I need to plan out her month's schedule so this chapter makes some sort of sense, which'll be fun for me because I like organizing and planning things.
WC: 54,290.
Also, a friend of mine that was in training to be a priest for a while just helped me with one of my previous sections, Tobias'. So that was fun. He seemed to enjoy it and didn't have any major criticism of it, other than fleshing out my theological arguments where I was a little weak. Which was exactly what he was supposed to do. So yay!

Oops, was so tired after all-star game that I went to sleep without posting an update ^.^ Oh Well.
Well, for some reason Kim's section is being difficult. My problem is figuring out the main action that occurs before the climax action. Also I'm not sure the "moral" of this section, because this section is my current life and I personally don't see anything wrong with it. There is, and it's something along the lines of 'stop and smell the roses', but I need to think of a non-retarded way of saying that, since that saying pisses me off and I rebel against the concept. Burnout may be a good argument...
Anyway. So I managed to complete the first chapter of Kim's section, by some miracle. There is soooo little dialog though, it's just her walking around going to classes and junk. The first chapter is basically "a day in the life of", you know? Whatever, I'll fix it in editing. Anyway, main problem now: need something else to be going on besides Kim just wandering around her life.

OW. So I've had a headache all day for no reason. Blegk. Not a migraine or anything, since I don't get those. It's probably an eye-strain headache, what with all this staring at a computer screen, I may need to upgrade my reading glasses prescription. Awesome...
So, got some writing done. Not as much as I wanted, but I'm gonna try and finish up this section tonight over the next hour or so. I'm about 3 1/2 chapters into Kim's section, and my sections generally run 5-6 chapters, so it's probably doable. And after Kim, I've only got 1 more full section to go. And I really like the character in the next section, he's such a sweetie. So I'm excited about writing him.

But who knows. I might. Damn headache. Had it all day today too, so I ended up sleeping most of the day and trying not to read things. I have to wear reading glasses because reading strains my eyes and gives me headaches, so that last sentence made sense. I might need a stronger prescription or something, I have been staring at this dang computer for 17 days straight.
So I got like, 500 words written. Wow. Awesome. Blegk.
I did go see the Dark Knight, which was AMAZINGEVERYONEGOSEEITWHOA!!!
So I'm feeling really energized and ready to get some serious writing done tomorrow, even if I have to close my eyes to do it.
Okay wow my eyes are already starting to hurt again and I'm typing this part with my eyes closed. So a quick excerpt and then I'm gone.

Well YAY my brain doesn't hurt today!! Alright! And now I'm only one chapter away from finishing Kim's section, so that is super awesome. So the section I wrote today is a little bit bittersweet, because there's this bit where Kim is rowing a 2k on the ergs, and I was in crew up until winter break last year. And I totally miss the girls and the competition and stuff, so this section made me kind of sad. :-(

Finished Kim's section! Finally! *dance dance dance* It's taken me, like, a week. But I finished it! *dance dance dance*
So, now I'm on to sorta-unnamed-adorable-boy-last-whole-section section. ^.^ Right now his name is George, but I'm not positive. I just lurvul the name George, and I lurvul this character. So. It'll probably end up being George, actually, since, well, I COMMA SPLICE! no, because I'll end up growing attached to the name and it'll stick. Anyway, he's the last whole section character, so yay almost done! There's this mini-section after the last section, that has to do with this whole plot device thing. But that'll only be one, two chapters max. So George is the last full section. Yay!

Wow. So I worked eight hours straight for my dad today. 10-6. Fuunnnnn. But luckily, last night George, the MC of my last kind of section, was like "rawr! You are not falling asleep vincenza! I will eat your brain and plot out whole scenes word for word until you wake up and write me!" so i ended up writing the first chapter of his section at THREE AM last night, the 2nd chapter of his section today, and i have pretty much his entire section outlined now. so yay!

Whoa. So I've been gone forever. 1 full week of not writing at all. Wow. I suck.
But! I just wrote 4,600 words tonight! Yay! Hurray for Phoebe's long winded rants about absolutely nothing!
George is about halfway through. I just need him and Phoebe to have their study group/date thing, George to finally be a man and kiss her, and that about should wrap it up. Then all I've got is the final wrap up section, which'll be fairly short (one or two chapters) and that's it! done with the book! yayyy!!!!

Um, that's all I have to say! Done! Done done done done done!!!
Anyone got any publishing tips? I'm editing the hell outta this thing over the next month, having other people read it and working their comments/critiques into it all. So, here's my excerpt wooo!!
