Breaking news: Remus originally gay? Yes, I've heard about it. I'm waiting for the interview to go up on iTunes later this evening for the full scoop.

Because I am absolutely, positively insane, I have compiled a document containing all of the "proof" of Sirius and Remus' more-than-brotherly relationship, using quotes from books 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7.
Yes, I am utterly mad.

Some things I wrote down because they were just cute, but the quotes that are especially weighty have been bolded.

NB: This is not meant to be overly serious (ha). Don't spam my comment boxes explaining away all of the different pieces of "proof". I understand JKR has pretty much shot down the ship, and almost definitely did not write the books with the ship in mind. This is all just a bit of fun (plus, I ran across a few facts that I can use in fics that I forgot about, so maybe it'll be helpful to others, too).

Edit: Didn't realize this might be an issue, but I'm using the US copy, so page numbers are off that. I understand the UK copy is different - sorry.

PROOF:

Prisoner of Azkaban:

85

“None of us is hiding Sirius Black under our cloaks."

-Snort.

166

"You remember the conversation we had, Headmaster, just before — ah — the start of term?" said Snape, who was barely opening his lips, as though trying to block Percy out of the conversation.

"I do, Severus," said Dumbledore, and there was something like warning in his voice.

"It seems — almost impossible — that Black could have entered the castle without inside help. I did express my concerns when you appointed — "

-Snape knows. :P

188

“But Sirius Black escaped from them,” Harry said slowly. “He got away…”

Lupin’s briefcase slipped from the desk; he had to stoop quickly to catch it.

“Yes,” he said, straightening up, “Black must have found a way to fight them. I wouldn’t have believed it possible…”

-Fumbling around a bit there at the mention of Sirius, aren’t we, Remus?

242

“Professor Lupin?” he said. “If you knew my dad, you must’ve known Sirius Black as well.”

Lupin turned very quickly.

“What gives you that idea?” he said sharply.

“Nothing – I mean, I just knew they were friends at Hogwarts too…”

Lupin’s face relaxed.

“Yes, I knew him,” he said shortly. “Or I thought I did. You’d better be off, Harry, it’s getting late.”

…wishing he hadn’t mentioned Black, as Lupin was obviously not keen on the subject.

-1.] Yes, Remus “knew” Sirius. … *cough Biblical sense cough*

-2.] Worried about what people know about your and Sirius’ relationship?

-3.] Seems to be blaming himself, with the "thought I did" part. A "I should have seen" sort of thing.

247

“He [Sirius] deserves it [Dementor’s kiss],” he said suddenly.

“You think so?” said Lupin lightly. “Do you really think anyone deserves that?”

-Aw. Even after all that, still thinking he’s the traitor, Remus can’t bring himself to wish that on Siri.

288

…Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs were still shining. An odd, closed expression appeared on Lupin’s face.

Lupin continued to stare at the map. Harry had the impression that Lupin was doing some very quick thinking.

“Indeed?” Said Snape. His jaw had gone rigid with anger. “…You don’t think it more likely that he got it directly from the manufacturers?”

289

“Why did Snape think I’d got it from the manufacturers?”

“Because…” Lupin hesitated, “because these mapmakers would have wanted to lure you out of school. They’d think it extremely entertaining.”

            “We’ve met,” he said shortly.

-“Met”, in the Biblical sense! kekeke

344

Then Lupin spoke, in a very tense voice.

            “Where is he, Sirius?”

-No words wasted; the two of them don’t need superfluity.

345

“But then…” Lupin muttered, staring at Black so intently it seemed he was trying to read his mind, “…why hasn’t he shown himself before now? Unless” – Lupin’s eyes suddenly widened, as though he was seeing something beyond Black, something none of the rest could see, “-unless he was the one…unless you switched…without telling me?”

Very slowly, his sunken gaze never leaving Lupin’s face, Black nodded.

Lupin was lowering his wand, gazing fixedly at Black. The Professor walked to Black’s side, seized his hand, pulled him to his feet so that Crookshanks fell to the floor, and embraced Black like a brother.

-“Like a brother”. Suuure. Also, daw at all of this. Sirius staring at Remus, which they tend to do a lot to each other, Remus understanding it all without Sirius saying anything, staring at him all intently, &c.

-On the "staring" note, according to [livejournal.com profile] elwing_alcyone , there are 45 pages of Sirius and Remus together, where they are described looking at each other 15 times. Compared to (eventual) couples like Ron and Hermione, who only look at each other 9 times in 45 pages, that's pretty steep.

346

            “-you and him!”

                        -snort.

349

“Sirius, NO!” Lupin yelled, launching himself forwards and dragging Black away from Ron again, “WAIT! You can’t do it just like that – they need to understand – we’ve got to explain-"

“We can explain afterwards!” snarled Black, trying to throw Lupin off. One hand was still clawing the air as it tried to reach Scabbers…

-“Throw Lupin off”; snort. Remus controlling Sirius, common action.

350

“They’ve – got – a – right – to – know – everything!” Lupin panted, still trying to restrain Black. “Ron’s kept him as a pet! There are parts of it even I don’t understand! And Harry – you owe Harry the truth, Sirius!”

            Black stopped struggling…

“All right, then,” Black said, without taking his eyes off the rat. “Tell them whatever you like. But make it quick, Remus. I want to commit the murder I was imprisoned for…”

-Remus panting and “restraining” Sirius. Sirius actually obeying Remus.

352

“If you’re going to tell them the story, get a move on, Remus,” snarled Black, who was still watching Scabbers’ every desperate move. “I’ve waited twelve years, I’m not going to wait much longer.”

“All right…but you’ll need to help me, Sirius,” said Lupin “I only know how it began.”

354

“…For the first time ever, I had friends, three great friends. Sirius Black…Peter Pettigrew…and, of course, your father, Harry – James Potter.”

“It took them the best part of three years to work out how to do it. Your father and Sirius here were the cleverest students in the school…Finally, in our fifth year, they managed it.”

-Look whose name comes first. Just saying. Also, complimenting Sirius.

355

“Hurry up, Remus,” snarled Black, who was still watching Scabbers with a horrible sort of hunger on his face.

“I’m getting there, Sirius, I’m getting there…Sirius and James transformed…Sirius is Padfoot. Peter is Wormtail. James was Prongs.

-1.] Take that dialogue out of context: Hurry up Remus; I’m getting there, Sirius. Kekeke.

-2.] List order again. Sirius first, Sirius first.

356

“All this year, I have been battling with myself, wondering whether I should tell Dumbledore that Sirius was an Animagus. But I didn’t do it.”

-Yeah, would have been a seriously important fact to let Dumbledore know. Reason why you didn’t? LURV.

-And of course, there's no hesitation later, when it's revealed that Peter was the traitor. So it really didn't have to do with Remus feeling bad that he was betraying Dumbledore's trust, since the situation would have been the same whether it was Sirius or Peter. But once it becomes Peter, ah, suddenly it's alright to reveal.

“Snape?” said Black harshly, taking his eyes off Scabbers for the first time in minutes and looking up at Lupin. “What’s Snape got to do with it?”

“He’s here, Sirius,” said Lupin heavily. “He’s teaching here as well.”

“…He has his reasons…you see, Sirius here played a trick on him which nearly killed him, a trick which involved me-”

            Black made a derisive noise.

“It served him right,” he sneered. “Sneaking around, trying to find out what we were up to…hoping he could get us expelled.”

357

“…Sirius thought it would be – er – amusing, to tell Snape all he had to do…”

-Wow. One of the most terrible things Sirius has ever done, and Remus lets Sirius off that easily?

359

Thin, snakelike cords burst from the end of Snape’s wand and twisted themselves around Lupin’s mouth, wrists, and ankles; he overbalanced and fell to the floor, unable to move. With a roar of rage, Black started toward Snape, but Snape pointed his wand straight between Black’s eyes.

Black stopped dead. It would have been impossible to say which face showed more hatred.

-Daw. Sirius looking out for Remus, getting super upset when Snape attacks him!

362

Lupin was struggling against his bonds. Black bent down quickly and untied him. Lupin straightened up, rubbing his arms where the ropes had cut into them.

-Sirius helping Remus out of ropes. Perhaps they’re used to the situation?

“You know, Sirius, that’s a fair question,” said Lupin, turning to Black and frowning slightly. “How did you find out where he was?”

-I basically like any time they talk to each other.

“How did you get this?” Lupin asked Black, thunderstruck.

“Fudge,” said Black. “When he came to inspect Azkaban last year…”

363

“He’s got a toe missing,” said Black.

“Of course,” Lupin breathed. “So simple…so brilliant…he cut it off himself?”

“Just before he transformed,” said Black. “When I cornered him…”

“I’d guess he’s been losing weight ever since he heard Sirius was on the loose again…”

364

            “No,” said Lupin, “Harry-”

“Harry,” said Lupin hurriedly, “don’t you see? All this time we’ve thought Sirius betrayed your parents, and Peter tracked him down – but it was the other way around, don’t you see? Peter betrayed your mother and father – Sirius tracked Peter down-”

-Coming to Sirius’ defense.

366

            “Ready, Sirius?” said Lupin.

Black had already retrieved Snape’s wand from the bed. He approached Lupin and the struggling rat, and his wet eyes suddenly seemed to be burning in his face.

“Together?” he said quietly.

“I think so,” said Lupin, holding Scabbers tightly in one hand and his wand in the other.

-Aw, together!

367

Black’s wand arm rose, but Lupin seized him around the wrist, gave him a warning look, then turned again to Pettigrew, his voice light and casual.

-Thus begins the “only Remus can control Sirius” theme that continues for the rest of the books.

369

[Sirius speaking] “…It used to be us…me and Remus…and James…”

-Hurm. So Sirius and Remus are something, and James is something separate from that, but still a part of the group?

370

“Er – Mr. Black – Sirius?” said Hermione.

Black jumped at being addressed like this and stared at Hermione as though he had never seen anything quite like her.

                        -I just think that’s cute. ^.^

372

“You don’t believe this…wouldn’t Sirius have told you they’d change the plan?”

-A natural assumption for Peter to make, with how close Sirius and Remus were?

373

“Not if he thought I was the spy, Peter,” said Lupin. “I assume that’s why you didn’t tell me, Sirius?” he said casually over Pettigrew’s head.

“Forgive me, Remus,” said Black.

“Not at all, Padfoot, old friend,” said Lupin, who was now rolling up his sleeves. “And will you, in turn, forgive me for believing you were the spy?”

“Of course,” said Black, and the ghost of a grin flitted across his gaunt face. He, too, began rolling up his sleeves. “Shall we kill him together?”

“Yes, I think so,” said Lupin grimly.

-1.] This is just one of my favorite exchanges between the two of them.

-2.] That "together" thing again - second time they've said that in the past few pages.

-3.] First proper smile from Sirius, Remus asking him for forgiveness and forgiving him in turn. Daw.

374

Both Black and Lupin strode forward, seized Pettigrew’s shoulders, and threw him backward onto the floor. He sat there, twitching with terror, staring up at them.

-They’re doing things together. Daw.

“…I was scared, Sirius, I was never brave like you and Remus and James.”

-Once again, Sirius and Remus’ names are paired together, whereas James’ hangs there like a third wheel. A trend that’s starting up here: JKR consistently pairs Sirius and Remus’ names when she’s listing a group of names that includes them.

375

Black and Lupin stood shoulder to shoulder, wands raised.

-1.] Aw, doing things together!

-2.] Also, apparently Remus has no issue killing Peter, whereas earlier when he was talking to Harry about Sirius, he was trying to convince him that no one deserved that much punishment, for the exact same crime. Hurm...

Black and Lupin both looked staggered.

                        -Together.

376

“…I don’t reckon my dad would’ve wanted them to become killers – just for you.”

-Yeah, because James knew about their relationship. Or something. Shut up.

Black and Lupin were looking at each other. Then, with one movement, they lowered their wands.

-Silent communication between the two of them.

Goblet of Fire:

713

“Sirius, I need you to set off at once. You are to alert Remus Lupin, Arabella Figg, Mundungus Fletcher – the old crowd. Lie low at Lupin’s for a while; I will contact you there.”

-1.] Remus’ name is first

-2.] Sirius lives with Remus between books 4 and 5, then in book five Remus goes to live with Sirius.

Order of the Phoenix:

60

Lupin pulled out his wand and tapped the door once. Harry heard many loud, metallic clicks and what sounded like the clatter of a chain. The door creaked open.

-Interesting that Remus is the one to open the door, out of the five. Makes sense, since he's living there with Sirius. Then again, they've got Moody there, who I feel sort of has precedent when it comes to opening doors to secure buildings.

83

“This solid silver, mate?”

“Yes,” Said Sirius, surveying it with distaste.

-Distaste as the key word, because of Remus being a werewolf and all.

88

Ron, Hermione, Fred, and George’s heads turned from Sirius to Mrs. Weasley as though following a tennis rally…Lupin’s eyes were fixed on Sirius.

-Made the point of showing Remus’ reaction as different. Focused on Sirius…

89

“Personally,” said Lupin quietly, looking away from Sirius at last, as Mrs. Weasley turned quickly to him, hopeful that finally she was about to get an ally, “I think it better that Harry gets the facts – not all the facts, Molly, but the general picture – from us, rather than a garbled version from…others.”

-Remus had, apparently, been staring at Sirius for about a page and a half. Also, sides with him.

90

Sirius started to rise from his chair.

“Molly, you’re not the only person at this table who cares about Harry,” said Lupin sharply. “Sirius, sit down.”

Mrs. Weasley’s lower lip was trembling. Sirius sank slowly back into his chair, his face white.

-Remus as the only one Sirius will listen to. Happens a lot.

91

Lupin hurried off to the portrait to restore calm. It was only after he had returned, closing the kitchen door behind him and taking his seat at the table again, that Sirius spoke.

-Sirius waiting for him, Remus being the one who takes care of Sirius’ mom.

91-96

I then did a statistical analysis of the conversation that took place over the course of these five pages. Harry is asking questions about the Order of the Phoenix, and getting some vague answers.

Here is the speaking order that ensues:

Sirius, Harry, Sirius, Remus, Harry, Sirius, Remus, Harry, Sirius, Remus, Harry, Bill, Sirius, Harry, Sirius, Harry, Remus, Harry, Sirius, Harry, Remus, Harry, Bill, Harry, Tonks, Harry, Arthur, Tonks, Harry, Arthur, Harry, Arthur, Remus, Harry, Sirius, Remus, Harry, Sirius, Remus, Sirius (speaking for Tonks and Arthur here, oddly enough), Arthur, Harry, Sirius, Harry, Remus, Bill, Arthur, Harry, Sirius, Harry, Sirius, Sirius (interrupted by action), Harry, Sirius, Harry, Molly (who ends the conversation).

Just looking at it, it sure looks like Sirius and Remus talk the most, and together moreover, than anyone else. But let's see concrete numbers:

Speaking Times:

Sirius: 15
Remus: 9
Arthur: 5
Bill: 3
Tonks: 2

Okay. So Sirius talks the most, which makes sense, since it's with his Godson. But look who comes next, by a significant amount - almost double the amount of the next guy, Arthur. By the way, who's known Harry the longest out of all these folks? Arthur. Interesting what two characters take the lead.

If you count Sirius and Remus as a couple vs everyone else, the numbers are even more dramatic:

Sirius/Remus : Everyone Else -> 24:10
That's more than double the speaking time of everyone else.

One more thing to analyze: paired speaking. By this, I mean looking at how many times names appear in conjunction with each other. Not counting Harry, we get:

Sirius/Remus: 5
Remus/Tonks: 0 (Wow, JKR, you really took time to set up that relationship, didn't you?)
Bill Arthur (Father/son): 1
Remus/Bill: 1

Okay, so Sirius and Remus speak in conjunction with each other a lot. But, if you eliminate Harry completely, and start counting pairs, Sirius and Remus' total "paired" speaking instances jumps to 15
FIFTEEN.
Compared to once for the father and son, and zero times for the eventual husband and wife.

Here's what taking Harry away makes the conversation look like:

Sirius, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Bill, Sirius, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Bill, Tonks, Arthur, Tonks, Arthur, Arthur, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Arthur, Sirius, Remus, Bill, Arthur, Sirius, Sirius, Sirius, Sirius.

Eliminating doubled names:

Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Bill, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Bill, Tonks, Arthur, Tonks, Arthur, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Remus, Sirius, Arthur, Sirius, Remus, Bill, Arthur, Sirius.

It's like Sirius and Remus got tired of talking half way through, grabbed a glass of water, and then started talking again. Looking at it like this makes it look like it's Sirius and Remus having a conversation, with occasional interlocutors.

JKR is writing them as a pair, as a couple. The relationship she was envisioning might have been a lot different than what we did, but they are a couple according to these speaking patterns. The numbers don't lie.
But that's enough of that. Back to actual quotes.

96

He thought he saw Sirius and Lupin exchange the most fleeting of looks before Sirius said, “Stuff he can only get by stealth."

-Exchanging looks. This happens a lot, too.

"No."

It was not Mrs. Weasley who spoke this time, but Lupin.

"The Order is comprised only of overage wizards,"

-Wow, Remus, that was sort of a "parent" thing to do, wasn't it? And notice how Sirius doesn't get upset at him "mothering" Harry, but he goes livid when Molly tries.

97

“…I think Molly’s right, Sirius. We’ve said enough.”

Sirius half-shrugged but did not argue.

-Again, Remus being the only one who Sirius obeys.

99

"When are you going to start using his name? Sirius and Lupin do."

-Just another instance of their names being paired: SiriusandRemus, not Sirius and Remus.

118

…and Lupin, who was staying in the house with Sirius but who left it for long periods to do mysterious work for the Order…

-1.] Okay, never noticed that before, Remus is actually rooming with Sirius throughout OotP. Squee!

-2.] Note how he is living in the house with Sirius. Not for the Order, or just Lupin is poor and has no where else to live, but with Sirius.

121

Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Sirius, Lupin...

-When a group of people are listed, their names are always paired.

170

“What about you, Sirius?”

“Sirius, who was right beside Harry, let out his usual barklike laugh.

“No one would have made me a prefect, I spent too much time in detention with James. Lupin was the good boy, he got the badge.”

“I think Dumbledore might have hoped that I would be able to exercise some control over my best friends,” said Lupin. “I need scarcely say I failed dismally.”

-Just cuteness.

176

Lupin had coming running into the room, closely followed by Sirius.

-Mentioned together, again.

302

“Yes, but the world isn’t split into good people and Death Eaters,” said Sirius with a wry smile. “I know she’s a nasty piece of work, though – you should hear Remus talk about her."

“Does Lupin know her?” asked Harry quickly, remembering Umbridge’s comments about dangerous half-breeds during her first lesson.

“No,” said Sirius, “but she drafted a bit of anti-werewolf legislation two years ago that makes it almost impossible for him to get a job.

“What’s she got against werewolves?” said Hermione angrily.

“Scared of them, I expect,” said Sirius, smiling at her indignation.

-Sirius pissed off at Umbridge on behalf of Remus, Sirius pleased with Hermione on behalf of Remus.

501

Sirius and Lupin had given Harry a set of excellent books entitled Practical Defensive Magic and Its Use Against the Dark Arts

-Joint Christmas gift. That’s something couples generally do.

642

Sirius was lounging in his chair at his ease, tilting it back on two legs. He was very good-looking; his dark hair fell into his eyes with a sort of casual elegance neither James’ nor Harry’s could ever have achieved, and a girl sitting behind him was eyeing him hopefully, though he didn’t seem to have noticed. And two seats along from this girl – Harry’s stomach gave another pleasurable squirm – was Remus Lupin.

-1.] Sirius pays no mind to female attention

-2.] In close proximity to the girl with a crush on Sirius is Remus. Interesting how those two people were connected by proximity descriptions.

643

“Did you like question ten, Moony?” asked Sirius as they emerged into the entrance hall.

“Loved it,” said Lupin briskly. “’Give five signs that identify the werewolf.’ Excellent question.”

-1.] Even though Sirius was standing with James already, the first person he talks to is Remus.

-2.] Aw. So cute!

644

Lupin had pulled out a book and was reading. Sirius stared around at the students milling over the grass, looking rather haughty and bored, but very handsomely so.

-1.] Notice how Remus' action - reading a book - is taken in conjunction with Sirius' boredom. Are we seeing a cause and effect relationship there, perhaps?

-2.] See 645.1

645

“I’m bored,” said Sirius. “Wish it was a full moon.”

“You might,” said Lupin darkly from behind his book. “We’ve still got Transfiguration, if you’re bored you could test me…Here.” He held out his book.

Sirius snorted. “I don’t need to look at that rubbish, I know it all.”

-1.] Perhaps this little bit of cruelty here, "wish it was a full moon", is Sirius taking a jab at Remus for not paying attention at him. After all, Sirius is bored, but Remus is just sitting there, reading to his heart's content. So who does Sirius reference as the person to keep him entertained? Remus. Moreover, he references something that's sure to upset Remus: an admonishment for not pay attention to him, perhaps?

-2.] Aww Remus is all pissy. And then tries to get Sirius to study with him.

Lupin was still staring down at his book, though his eyes were not moving and a faint frown line had appeared between his eyebrows.

-Remus won’t stand up to Sirius. Daw.

669

…Harry opened his eyes to find that he was looking up out of the kitchen fireplace at the long, wooden table, where a man sat poring over a piece of parchment.

            “Sirius?”

The man jumped and looked around. It was not Sirius, but Lupin.

“Harry!” he said, looking thoroughly shocked. “What are you – what’s happened, is everything all right?”

“I’ll call him,” said Lupin, getting to his feet, still looking perplexed. “He went upstairs to look for Kreacher, he seems to be hiding in the attic again…”

-1.] Apparently Sirius was just down there with Remus.

-2.] They must have to be careful about doing…things…in view of the fireplace.

-3.] Wonder what Harry might have seen a few minutes earlier.

-4.] Remus knew exactly where Siri was/why he had left the table. That kind of indicates that when Sirius got up to go upstairs, he announced where he was going, or Remus asked him. So they weren't just two men sitting at the same table, they were sitting at the table together.

He wondered why Sirius had never mentioned how very uncomfortable it was to speak out of the fire – his knees were already objecting painfully to their prolonged contact with Umbridge’s hard stone floor.

-I have a theory as to why Sirius never mentioned being uncomfortable being on his knees for long periods of time. But that would just be terrible of me to think.

Lupin returned with Sirius at his heels moments later.

“What is it?” said Sirius urgently, sweeping his long dark hair out of his eyes and dropping to the ground in front of the fire, so that he and Harry were on a level; Lupin knelt down too, looking very concerned. “Are you all right? Do you need help?”

-1.] Aw, they’re together.

-2.] Remus doesn't even seem to consider not joining in the conversation, even though it's a conversation between a former student and his Godfather. That's kind of a family sort of thing, but Remus kneels down right next to Sirius, like he's apart of the family.

They exchanged a look of great surprise, but Harry did not have time to feel awkward or embarrassed…

-Exchanging looks again. Told you they do that a lot.

670

“I’m not proud of it,” said Sirius quickly.

Lupin looked sideways at Sirius and then said, “Look, Harry, what you’ve got to understand is that your father and Sirius were the best in the school at whatever they did – everyone thought they were the height of cool – if they sometimes got a bit carried away-”

“If we were sometimes arrogant little berks, you mean,” said Sirius.

            Lupin smiled.

-Aw. Looks and self-deprecation and defending each other. So cute.

            Sirius and Lupin laughed.

                        -More stuff in unison.

“Was he playing with the Snitch?” said Lupin eagerly.

“Yeah,” said Harry, watching uncomprehendingly as Sirius and Lupin beamed reminiscently. “Well---I thought he was a bit of an idiot.”

“Of course he was a bit of an idiot!” said Sirius bracingly. “We were all idiots. Well – not Moony so much,” he said fairly, looking at Lupin, but Lupin shook his head.

“Did I ever tell you to lay off Snape?” he said. “Did I ever have the guts to tell you I thought you were out of order?”

“Yeah, well,” said Sirius, “you made us feel ashamed of ourselves sometimes…That was something…”

-So cute. Sirius saying Remus was a better person than them, Remus denying it and saying he couldn’t stand up to them, Sirius rushing to reassure him.

671

            “Nah, she didn’t” said Sirius.

“She started going out with him in seventh year,” said Lupin.

“Once James had deflated his head a bit,” said Sirius.

“And stopped hexing people just for the fun of it,” said Lupin.

-I just like this exchange because it’s so synchronized. Like the two of them are used to speaking for each other and finish each other’s thoughts.

801

…five more people sprinted into the room: Sirius, Lupin…

                        -Mentioning their names together again.

806

…Lupin grabbed Harry around the chest, holding him back.

“There’s nothing you can do, Harry-”

“Get him, save him, he’s only just gone through!”

            “It’s too late, Harry-”

            “We can still reach him-”

Harry struggled hard and viciously, but Lupin would not let go…

“There’s nothing you can do, Harry…nothing…He’s gone.”

-Remus as the one who goes to Harry, who stops him.

807

“He can’t come back, Harry,” said Lupin, his voice breaking as he struggled to contain Harry. “He can’t come back, because he’s d-”

                        -Voice breaking.

808

Lupin turned away from the archway as he spoke. It sounded as though every word was causing him pain.

- ;__;

Half-Blood Prince:

92

"It's all this uncertainty with You-Know-Who coming back, people think they might be dead tomorrow, so they're rushing all sorts of decisions they'd normally take time over. It was the same last time he was powerful, people eloping left, right, and center -"

-This is Molly talking about Fleur and Bill, in specific. However, I think we can see how well it applies to Remus and Tonks' engagement, which also takes place in this book.

330

Meanwhile, Remus Lupin, who was thinner and more ragged-looking than ever, was sitting beside the fire, staring into its depths as though he could not hear Celestina's voice.

-1.] Poor dear. He's obviously so badly off because of Sirius' death.

-2.] Also, is this how a man in love should look? Granted, I've never been deeply, deeply in love, as Tonks as Remus so obviously are (insert extreme sarcasm in here) but they get engaged in about 6 months. And he looks like this? The worst Harry's ever seen him? And remember, Harry saw him immediately after that full moon at the end of third year, when he had just gotten sacked and forgot to take his potion. But at that point, he was nearly giddy with Sirius' innocence. Huuuurm...

"...I am too old for you, too poor...too dangerous..." - Remus speaking to Tonks

-1.] None of these are problems that stand between Sirius and Remus being together. They're the same age, Sirius is rich, and an animagus. Just saying, in Lupin's mind, he and Sirius are a better couple than himself and Tonks.

-2.] He sure does protest a lot, doesn't he? And it's not until several Weasley's gang up on him with Tonks that he finally relents. Is that a dream proposal, or what? (Answer: or what.)

Deathly Hallows:

Yeah, that's right. I found proof after Remus is married. No, seriously, I did:

211

"But what about Tonks?" she asked

"What about her?" said Lupin.

-What about her? Seriously? This is Remus talking about his wife? His love? The mother of his child? What about her? Cold, mate. Cold.

"Tonks will be perfectly safe," said Lupin. "She'll be at her parents' house."

There was something strange in Lupin's tone; it was almost cold.

-Damn right it sounds cold. First of all, we all realize he's calling his wife by her last name. Do we realize this? I know she doesn't like her name, but holy shit. Her last name? His wife? I guess she didn't change her name then, huh...? I mean, we don't see Remus and Sirius referring to each other as "Black" and "Lupin", even though that's kind of a normal guy thing. Just saying.

212

There was another pause, an awkward and embarrassed one, and then Lupin said, with an air of forcing himself to admit something unpleasant, "Tonks is going to have a baby."

-1.] Youch. Okay, I know there's supposed to be this whole "worried about the lycanthropy" thing, but "with an air of forcing to admit something unpleasant"? JKR could have written "nervously" or "nervous excitement" or something. I mean, holy shit, mate. *pokes Remus*

-2.] On a side note, I forgot where I read it, but someone on LJ once mentioned that she had a theory that Remus was drunk the entire 7th book, and that therefore explains his behavior throughout it. I totally subscribe to this theory, because honestly, otherwise he's just completely OOC and a downright bastard.

Lupin gave an artificial smile that was more like a grimace...

-That's in reference to him having a baby. Listen, we know that Remus is good with kids: he was a freaking DADA teacher at Hogwarts for a year! The best they've ever had! He acted like a mentor and friend to young!Harry...we know he's comfortable around children. So that can't be the problem here. I mean, a grimace? Really? What about "nervous" "worried" "concerned" "beyond himself with anxiety over the kid possibly being a werewolf"? Anything besides a "grimace".

"She'll [Tonks] be perfectly safe there, they'll look after her," said Lupin. He spoke with a finality bordering on indifference.

-Bordering on indifference? Shit, Remus. Not concerned about your wife while there's a war going on and people trying to kill her? I mean, her fucking aunt (I think...) is Bellatrix. Dude! Alright, fine, then.

213

"I - I made a grave mistake in marrying Tonks. I did it against my better judgment and I have regretted it very much ever since."

-Gaaaaaaayy. *cough* Sorry. But, I mean, there you go.

"My kind don't usually breed! It will be like me, I am convinced of it - how can I forgive myself, when I knowingly risked passing on my own condition to an innocent child? And if, by some miracle, it is not like me, then it will be better off, a hundred times so, without a father of whom it must always be ashamed!"

-Okay, read this out of context, w/o thinking "werewolf". What do you think is condition is?
Okay, yeah, you probably think it's AIDS. But assuming he's not talking about AIDS or being a werewolf, what is the other thing that perfectly fits this incredibly vague paragraph?
Oh, gayness. YEAH. It fits like a fucking condom, is what it fits like.

214

"I think you're feeling a bit of a daredevil," Harry said. "You fancy stepping into Sirius's shoes-"

...

Lupin drew his wand so fast that Harry had barely reached for his own...

-So what ends up infuriating Remus so much that he physically attacks Harry? Oh, why the mention of Sirius. Not Tonks, not the child, not James. Sirius

699

Sirius was tall and handsome, and younger by far than Harry had seen him in life...

Lupin was younger too, and much less shabby...He looked happy to be back in this familiar place, scene of so many adolescent wanderings.

-1.] The couples here are age-matched. What do I mean by that? James and Lily are the same ages as each other: the age of their death. But Sirius and Remus are distinctly described as being younger than when they died. What age are they exactly? Unsure, but their young-ness is described in relation to each other: Lupin was younger too. That too refers to Sirius.

-2.] Sirius and Remus are described in conjunction with each other. The description goes James, Sirius, Remus, Lily. Once again, Rowling can't help but pair them.

-3.] Remus is suddenly the happiest we've seen him the entire last 2 books. Hurm...

-4.] Where's Tonks? Oh, totally not there, even though she's dead, too. How interesting, that Remus is spending his afterlife with Sirius, rather than his wife (and shush, I know they're not ghosts, just like, fake memory things. Shut up).

700

"Dying? Not at all," said Sirius. "Quicker and easier than falling asleep."

"And he will want it to be quick. He wants it over," said Lupin.

-The two of them are talking paired up again. Sirius, then Remus.

Beside him...walked James, Sirius, Lupin, and Lily...

-Once again: hello. Could they be any more a couple? Any more SiriusandRemus?

701

...his mother and father, Lupin and Sirius stopped too.

-Yeah, JKR. Remus and Sirius aren't a couple at all. I mean, just look at the obsessive conjunctive descriptions of Remus and Sirius.

...his mother and father and Sirius and Lupin stood.

-Again, conjunctive. I could do this all night.

703

...he saw his parents, Sirius, and Lupin vanish...

-Aaaall night...
